Star Image

Select a 'star image' within your chosen genre, consider how they re-present themselves from media materials.

1) Describe and analyse this star image. Use pictures to illustrate your response.

2) What are the elements that you could borrow from this 'star image' that could be applied to your own artist/band?

Discuss what ideas do you have for your artist/band's star image- a mix of an existing artist/band's representation and something you have constructed to create a unique artist.

Coursework- Mr Philip tasks

You MUST complete the following:

Genre research. Define the genre that you intend to work from and provide a detailed analysis of the key elements of that genre.

Voyeurism- find examples of the male and female gaze in a Music Video. How has camera and editing created a sense of an overly sexualised body?

Intertextuality. Find examples of intertextuality in music videos, what other media text is referenced and what is the impact on the target audience?

Music Video Director. Research and select your favourite music video director. Analyse the common stylistic features of their videos. Ideally this should be of a director working within your chosen music video genre.

Goodwin analysis. Apply Goodwin's theory to a music video of your choice (preferably within the genre you intend to make a music video in). What is the genre of the music video and how do we know this? How do the lyrics relate to the visuals? How does the music relate to the visuals- eg mise en scene, camera and editing? Describe the nature of the close ups and why have they been used so frequently? Any examples of voyeurism in this music video?

You COULD also blog on the history of the Music Video. In what way has it changed over time?

Use the above video that we viewed in lesson as a reference point for your reflections.

What to do during the strike...

Hi all

We are aware that no-one will be in the Dept on strike day (THURS) so can you please use any media 'time' to continue with your research, analysis and any other outstanding work already set.

Over the next week we will produce a list of what you should have done so far so you can check your progress - we will be checking your blogs this week for the CWAT assessments being completed next week.

Michael will be in to help with anything technical.
